Course Name: ADVANCED TRAINING FOR SHIPS USING FUELS COVERED WITHIN THE IGF CODE - (DG APPROVED)
Entry Criteria:

Four Basic safety courses, under STCW Regulation VI/1 and Section A-VI/1. Hold Certificate of Proficiency for Basic Training for ships using Fuels covered within the IGF Code.

Course Duration: 5 Days 33 Hours
Course Description:

    The aim of the course is to provide training to meet the minimum mandatory requirements for training and certification for masters, engineer officers and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel systems on ships subject to the IGF code, as per Regulation A-V/3 and Section A-V/3-2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 as amended, hereafter referred to as STCW. Senior Officers joining ships fueled by Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels eg LNG, CNG, LPG, Methyl/Ethyl Alcohol, etc. shall need to undergo Advanced safety training on handling during bunkering, storage and transfer of such volatile fuels. The course involves simulator training for bunkering of low flash point fuels and its storage fuel.

Contents of the Course:

  1. Understanding of the simple chemistry and physics related to the safe bunkering of fuels used on board ships subject to the IGF code.
  2. Ship design, systems and operational characteristics of IGF ships.
  3. Bunkering, storage and securing of IGF fuels.
  4. Safety and Control systems for bunkering and boil off gas to the engine.
  5. Measurements and calculations
  6. Emergency procedure in case of spills and leaks
  7. Gas monitoring and Detection systems and associated instruments
  8. Develop safety instructions for tank entry and hot work based on risk assessment.
  9. Covers simulation exercises on LNG Bunkering (min 2 bunkering operations),
  10. Tank cooling down and inerting and discharge of LNG with the fuel system leading to main engine.
