Course Name: ENGINE ROOM EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Entry Criteria:

C/E, 2/E with MEO Class II CoC

Course Duration: 2 Days 16 Hours
Course Description:

The Senior Engineer onboard ship should be capable of monitoring machinery parameters and acquiring relevant data to analyse and pin point the cause for the abnormal operation of machinery. This includes mitigating effects of a breakdown by reducing the extent of damage to the equipment.

During the simulation exercises course sessions, emphasis will be given on identification of the causes of faults, breaking the error chain and timely effective response.

This course is conducted on a Full mission Engine Room Simulator.

During exercise debriefings, a thorough fault analysis is carried out and corrective action discussed. In conclusion, the candidate is graded as per his technical and behavioral Competance on his ability to diagnose the fault in time and take corrective action that will avoid any breakdowns or mishaps.

Contents of the Course:

  • Familiarization with the simulator - Auxiliary machinery, main propulsion and Inert Gas plant.
  • Various simulation exercises are conducted where the instructor feeds in different faults, eg:
  • Dead ship scenario exercise and reviving the engine
  • Auxiliary Boiler Furnace Explosion
  • Emergency control and resource management
  • Main engine faults and emergency actions
  • Flooding in engine room
  • Crankage Oil Mist high
  • Scavenge Fires
  • Crash Astern
  • Black out scenario
