Course Description: |
Chemical tankers are required to transport a wide range of different cargoes, and many tankers are designed to carry a large number of segregated products simultaneously. To cover all aspect of safety handling such noxious liquid chemicals, general safety precautions should be observed irrespective of cargoes carried. These general precautions should be observed at all times, both in port and at sea as applicable.
Additional precautions for specific cargoes are necessary and are also incorporated in the ship’s cargo handling procedures. There are large variations in the design of cargo containment and cargo handling systems of modern chemical tankers, and specific ship require special precautions for discharging various grade noxious liquid substances in bulk. Particular attention should be paid to ship’s cargo discharge equipment, such as pump, pump room ventilation etc.
It is essential on chemical tankers that everyone knows his ship’s safety precautions thoroughly prior handling noxious chemical cargo.
Case Studies related to incidents / near-misses on board are discussed and analysed.
