Course Name: CRUDE AND PRODUCT TANKER SAFETY FOR RATINGS AND TRAINEE
Entry Criteria:

Ratings & Trainees (i.e cadets and all deck, engine and galley ratings) and those officers without any tanker experience + OTFC course

Course Duration: 2 Days 16 Hours
Course Description:

    The purpose of the course is to assist maritime training institutes and their teaching staff in organizing and introducing new training courses, or in enhancing, updating or supplement-ing existing training material where the quality and effectiveness of the training courses may thereby be complemented.
    The endeavor is to enhance the knowledge of shipboard ratings and trainees who sail on specialized carriers such as an oil tankers. It is not the intention of the course to compartmen-talize the trainee’s way of thinking in terms of oil tanker operation. The idea is to make him / her aware of executing the operations specific to an oil tanker in a safe way and sensitize him/her towards the responsibilities that s/he will face on such a vessel.
    This course is for Ratings and Trainees on board oil tankers who have been trained for the cargo handling in port and care in transit. By successfully doing an Oil tanker familiarization course. The coverage of the course is restricted in scope and includes Hazards of Petroleum, Precautions with Cargo hoses and pipelines, Prevention of pollution from ships, Work Permits, including enclosed space entry permit, Emergencies and Firefighting Operations.
    In addition, the course covers the Operator and support level aspects on board by including a section on practicals in safe tanker operations.

  • Static electricity precautions
  • Maintenance of Cargo pipelines & Valves, Precaution with cargo hoses
  • Using PPE correctly
  • Pollution Prevention
  • Gas Measuring Instruments
  • Precautions during Gauging & Cargo Sampling
  • Enclosed space entry precautions
  • Work permits
  • Emergencies- Alarms, Duties, Stations, SOPEP, Oil Spill, Fire, Personal exposure
  • Fire fighting systems - Measures and Precautions
  • Pump Room Precautions
  • Practical’s in workshop:- Tank cleaning machine overhaul, Cargo Pump Operations, Cargo striping Operation & Purging of cargo pump, Demonstration of SCBA, EEBD.
