Course Name: CRUDE AND PRODUCT TANKER SAFETY COURSE FOR ALL DECK OFFICERS
Entry Criteria:

All Deck officers (i.e Master, C/O,2/O,3/O, J/O all with COC, TASCO and at least 3 months on tankers)

Course Duration: 2 Days 16 Hours
Course Description:

    The purpose of the course is to assist teaching staff in organizing and enhancing, updating or supplementing existing training material where the quality and effective-ness of the training courses may thereby be complemented. The effort is to enhance the knowledge of shipboard Deck Officers who sail on spe-cialized carriers such as an oil tankers. It is not the intention of the course to compart-mentalize the trainee’s way of thinking in terms of oil tanker operation. The idea is to make him / her aware of executing the operations specific to an oil tanker in a safe way and sensitize him/her towards the responsibilities that s/he will face on such a vessel.
    This course is for Deck Officers on board oil tankers who have been trained for the cargo handling in port and care in transit, by successfully doing an Oil tanker familiarization course and/or the Specialized Training in Oil Tanker Operations course. The coverage of the course is not restricted in scope and includes additional aspects of training in Operational problems, Cargo Calculations, Venting, VOC control, Gas detection, Tank Cleaning and COW operations. In addition, the course covers the Operator and management level aspects on board by including a section on safe tanker cargo operations.

  • Tank residues removal & cleaning procedures
  • Pump theory with, Vac strip system
  • Line draining procedures after completion of cargo Prior Dry Docking.-
  • Cargo calculating with wedge formulas.
  • How to prevent cargo shortage claims
  • VOC applicable to crude oil tankers
  • H2S & Benzene using dragger tubes prior tank entry.
  • Means of checking NRV on Cargo lines.
  • Gas measuring Instruments
  • COW requirements, Check List and tests
  • Tank Cleaning precautions, Inerted, too lean and Uncontrolled washing methods
  • Open cycle COW, recirculated wash water wash, decanting slop tanks LCHS simulator exercise
