Course Name: DECK CRANE OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
Entry Criteria:

C/E 2/E and EOs, preferably from bulk pool

Course Duration: 2 Days 16 Hours
Course Description:

This course consists of structured training wherein the construction, operations and maintenance to be done on the Deck Crane are described. The Training course is designed to improve the participant’s knowledge to operate the machinery in an efficient manner. The participants are introduced to the General Arrangements and then the parts of the Deck Crane, Safety Alarms - Cutouts / trips, Hydraulics basics, Electrical and Hydraulic Circuit tracing are taken up and discussed important Maintenance that are to be carried out on the Crane. Case studies of the breakdown of the machinery are discussed and root cause analysed followed up with recommendations to prevent recurrence of the breakdown. Electro hydraulics cranes used for cargo operation on bulk carriers and container ships are well covered in the training course.

  • Types of deck cranes, components and safe operation
  • Properties of hydraulic oils, contamination and control
  • Understanding hydraulic symbols
  • Tracing of hydraulic circuits of MacGREGOR and Tsuji cranes
  • Understanding of electrical symbols, reading electrical crane circuits and safeties
  • Planned maintenance and inspection of various parts of cranes
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting of deck cranes
  • Discussion on case studies and damages
