Course Name:	RIGGING AND LIFTING OPERATIONS
Entry Criteria:	Deck and Engineer officers
Course Duration:	2 Days 14 Hours

Course Description:

Accidents during various Lifting Operations on board, are not uncommon. This course is to familiarize the ship’s Officers with concepts of Rigging and Lifting Operations on board, related Safe Working Practices on board, Company’s general guidelines on the same, and to make them aware and familiar with techniques of hazard identification and operation of various Lifting appliances, so that they are able to take the appropriate measures and safeguards to minimize the risk of an accident during a Lifting Operation.

Contents of the Course:

Introduction – Relevant Regulations – COSWP, Chain Register, ILO Dock Labour Regulations, SWL

Risk assessment, Hazard Identification, Toolbox meeting and Work-Area inspection, Estimation of Weight, Rigging Plans.

Communication by Hand Signals and Walkie Talkies

Crane Operation: (Pedestal Crane and Travelling Crane) - Crane operating principles, - Parts of a Crane, - Maintenance and Tests of a Crane, - Pre-use inspection of a Crane, safe and correct operation of a Crane. - Making an Overhead Crane Lift Plan.

Slings - Slinging Principles, Types of Slings and Hitches, and their uses, Pre-use inspection of Slings, Safe and correct use of Chains and Slings

Chain Block ,Pulley, and Tripod : - Principles, Terminology, Uses, Pre-use inspection, - Safe and correct use of Chain Block, Pulley and - Tripod, including Lifting and moving specific types of - Loads, and appreciation of Environmental and - Dynamic factors.

Grab - Grab operating principles, Parts of a Grab, Maintenance and Tests of a Grab, Pre-use inspection of a Grab, safe and correct operation of a Grab.
