Course Description:

Faulty, incorrect and inadequate surface preparation and painting procedures on board, are not uncommon. These result in unnecessary wastage of time, effort and money, as the main objective of good surface and steel protection is not achieved. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the trainee with the correct techniques of Surface preparation and Painting onboard and the related Safe Working Practices onboard, so that they are able to use the hydroblasting machine and the spray painting machine safety and effectively to maintain the steel structures in a corrosion free and aesthetically smooth surfaces.

Contents of the Course:

  1. Types and causes of corrosion.
  2. Surface Preparation Standards achieved using tools, abrasives and blasting.
  3. Procedure of various ways of Pre-preparation of the surface and the tools and equipment used for the same.
  4. Adherence to safety when carrying out surface preparation and painting.
  5. Use of hydroblaster for surface preparation.
  6. Various types of Paint and their properties.
  7. Calculation of how much paint and thinner will be needed.
  8. Understand the impact of the Dew Point and Relative Humidity on application of paint.
  9. Carry out spray painting using airless spray painting machine.
  10. Recognizing painting flaws.
